What Is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra can be thought of as ‘yogic sleep’. Yoga means union and Nidra means sleep.
In Yoga Nidra the aim is to join your awareness with the act of sleeping. Externally it may look like you are asleep, but internally you are awake and aware, and you are conscious of the deeper layers of the mind.
Through the use of body sensing, breath awareness, and guided imagery, you are systematically guided on a journey through your whole being- “the koshas”. The koshas represent the 5 layers of being. In a nutshell- Layer 1 is our physical body.
Layer 2 is our energy body, our life force, or prana. Layer 3 the mental body. Layer 4 a primary one-ness orientation. Layer 5 the bliss body.
